Pyramids FC Crowned CAF Champions League Champions
Pyramids FC made history on June 1, 2025, by securing their first-ever CAF Champions League title with a 2–1 victory over South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the final at Cairo’s 30 June Stadium, clinching a 3–2 aggregate triumph. After the first leg ended in a 1–1 draw in Pretoria, Fiston Mayele gave Pyramids the lead in the 23rd minute by capitalizing on a defensive error, and Ahmed Samy doubled the advantage with a header from a free-kick in the 56th minute. Despite Iqraam Rayners pulling one back for Sundowns late in the match, Pyramids held firm under intense pressure to seal the victory. Under the guidance of Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurcic, Pyramids attracted a crowd of 30,000 supporters at the 30 June Stadium. This triumph makes Pyramids just the fourth Egyptian club to lift the CAF Champions League trophy, joining the ranks of Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Ismaily. It follows last season’s Egyptian Cup victory, underscoring the rapid ascent of Pyramids since their relocation to Cairo in 2018. Fiston Mayele, who opened the scoring in the final, finished the tournament as its top scorer with six goals, cementing his name in club history. With this victory, Pyramids will represent Africa at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States later this year.
